The American Style

Using New York as a lens to explore America’s enduring interest in the Colonial Revival—especially in architecture and design—The American Style: Colonial Revival and the Modern Metropolis, featuring photographs, furniture, and an array of decorative objects, will look at the period from the end of the 19th century through today, when architects and designers are enlivening the style in new ways. The exhibition will also examine the pivotal role that the city played in the development and dissemination of this quintessentially American aesthetic. The show, which opens June 14th, will be accompanied by a book of the same name, written by exhibition curators Donald Albrecht and Thomas Mellins, and co-published by the Museum of the City of New York and The Monacelli Press.
