2011 Post-Holiday Stop 'N' Swaps


Clear out all your unwanted, reusable items and bring them to the Stop 'N' Swap, where you can peruse items left by others and take home things that you can use. Free! Clean, working, portable items only, please (no furniture or other large items).

Tree Mulching and Curbside Pick-Up
On January 8 & 9, bring trees (cleaned of stands, tinsel and ornaments) to one of 70 MulchFest sites around the city. Trees will be recycled into mulch to nourish city trees, parks and gardens and will be available for the taking at select sites. If you miss MulchFest, the city will pick up trees (also stripped of ornaments, etc) curbside from January 3-15.

GrowNYC hosts weekly textile recycling drop-offs for residents at 8 Greenmarkets on 4 different days of the week.

*Rechargeable Batteries & Cell Phones
14 of our Greenmarkets accept cell phones and rechargeable batteries (no other batteries or electronics).

*Compost Drop-Off
Four of our Greenmarkets sponsor compost drop-off sites for fruit and vegetable scraps, non-greasy food scraps or leftovers (rice, pasta, bread, cereal etc.), coffee grounds & filters, tea bags, hair and nails (animal or human), egg and nut shells, cut or dried flowers, houseplants and potting soil. [Do not bring meat, chicken, fish, greasy food scraps, fat, oil, dairy items, dog or cat feces, kitty litter, coal or charcoal, coconuts, diseased and/or insect-infested houseplants and soil.]
