Workshop Overview
Engineers, architects, and industrial designers can quickly become eligible to teach in New Jersey schools! With the field of Technology Education in New Jersey projecting a shortage of several hundred teachers in the next few years, it is more important than ever to find qualified people to fill these positions. Technology Education courses provide hands-on design experiences at all grade levels. Students in these programs achieve technological literacy and prepare to become tomorrow’s design professionals.

This workshop will provide an overview of contemporary Technology Education curriculum as well as explain pathways to a career in teaching Technology Education. All individuals with at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or industrial design qualify for “alternate route” certification in Technology Education. Other options for certification will be presented for those who want to consider a graduate studies alternative. Other topics to be discussed include salary ranges, lifestyle, and making a successful transition into the classroom.

Technology Education teachers will also be available to answer questions and serve as informal mentors to those that desire more information. The program will include a presentation by an individual that has made such a career change.
