Originally from Israel, Lerner received his master's degree in industrial design from Domes Academy in Milan in 1998. In 2003, Ran Lerner Design Inc. was established in order to bring witty and functional design concepts to lighting, furniture and home accessories. His studio integrates original thinking and mass-market accessibility - and as a result, his designs can be found at Crate & Barrel, The Conran Store, MOMA, Bloomingdales, Bed Bath & Beyond and Sears, among many others.

Lerner's most well-loved designs include: the "Doodlebook Frame" for Umbra, "Float" flatware manufactured by Yamazaki, aluminum "Caddy" salt and pepper shakers for Reed & Barton, "The White Clock" for Kikkerland and others. Ran Lerner Designs has been featured in publicationsincluding The New York Times, Food & Wine, ID Magazine, House & Garden and Gifts & Accessories. The firm has exhibited internationally.
