A reception and manufacturers meet and greet will be held from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m., followed by a keynote speech delivered by Ron Runkles of NEMA from 6:45 to 8 p.m.

Biography:
Ron Runkles joined NEMA in February 1988 after seventeen years as a United Methodist minister. His first two assignments upon joining NEMA were to develop the language for the lighting equipment portion of what became the Energy Policy Act of 1992 and to manage and coordinate the Capitol Hill Lighting Project. Several years later when NEMA re-organized, Mr. Runkles became a program manager in the Engineering Department and remained in that capacity until this past summer, when he moved over to Industry Operations where he is now responsible for the overall activities of the Lighting Systems Division. During his years with NEMA, he has always worked for the Lighting Systems Division member manufacturers. While with the lighting industry, he has worked to develop numerous safety, performance, and interoperability standards. He will share his current experiences as the Division is developing a Unified Message Campaign, working on the interoperability of fluorescent lighting products, developing a communications protocol for lighting control devices, and moving into solid state lighting standards.
