How to Serve as an Expert Witness in Design Patent Litigation
June 12-13, 2008
Hyatt Regency Reston Town Center – Reston, VA

What is an Expert Witness?
What do they do?
Who can be one?

As an Expert Witness, you can help protect the integrity and exclusivity of award-winning designs. You can help convict copycats, protect those wrongly accused and influence court decisions with tens of millions of dollars riding on the outcome. However, a team of tough attorneys will try to discredit your testimony, undermine your credibility and make you look stupid on the witness stand. How can you protect your integrity?

You can learn the answers to these and many other questions by attending “How to Serve as an Expert Witness in Design Patent Litigation,” IDSA’s first-ever seminar focused on educating prospective Expert Witnesses. Led by Perry Saidman, Esq., Affiliate IDSA and Cooper Woodring, FIDSA, each seasoned Expert Witnesses with significant experience on both the plaintiff and defendant sides, this seminar will teach you:

• What is a design patent?
• What are the differences between design patents, utility patents, trademarks and copyrights?
• The expert witness’ analytical process, including how close is too close?
• Writing expert and rebuttal reports
• The details on depositions—what to say and what not to say
• How much can you charge as an expert witness?
• The design patent cases currently making the most waves

Seminar participants must be IDSA members, hold at least a bachelor’s degree in industrial design or a related field, and have 10 or more years of experience in the field. Additionally, several attorneys have specifically requested female expert design witnesses, and we currently know of none.

Registration for this two-day seminar is $2,000 for members. Limited space is available…to register, contact IDSA’s Registration Department at 703.707.6000 or fill out the registration form below.

If you’ve ever wondered how to use your knowledge of design in a new and different way, here’s your chance…don’t miss out!
