HFES+IDSANYC:
Human-Centered Design Workshop
Saturday, November 17th 10am-4pm
Pratt Brooklyn Campus : Pratt Studios building : Room 43
take the G subway to the Clinton/Washington Station Brooklyn Bus B38, B48, B54

We have all found products that we wish were designed better—they just don’t do what they’re supposed to do, or are impossible to use. Products have to be designed with the user and intended use in mind, but in many cases research is not integrated into the design process, and the designs aren’t evaluated before production.
This event is intended for designers and human factors professionals interested in human-centered design processes, and integrating human factors into design practice.
9:30-10:00 Registration
10:00-12:00 Presentations (30m +10m Q/A x 4)
• Usability and Human Factors :: Stan Caplan - Usability Associates
• Using Human Factors resources in product design :: Dan Harel
• Needfinding and interviewing :: Jenna Shanis - Peel Design
• User Interface design and evaluation :: Adam Shames – Design Science
12:00-12:30 Group Formation
• Groups will be set up by interest—for example, furniture designers will have a furniture related challenge
12:30-1:00 Lunch Break
1:00-3:00 Group working time
• Groups will be mentored by one of the morning session’s presenters or another human factors expert.
• Groups will be provided with appropriate materials on anthropometrics, user interface design guidelines, etc.
• Groups will be provided with a set of guidelines for the presentations to be made at the end of the group working time
3:30-4:30 Presentations
• At the end of the group working time, each group will present their design, and discuss the resources they used to come to that solution, as well as the research they would conduct to define or design that product or concept.
