NASA Announces New Centennial Challenge

The Astronaut Glove Challenge award will go to the team that can design and manufacture the best performing glove within competition parameters. The $250,000 purse will be awarded at a competition scheduled for November 2006, when competing teams test their glove designs against each other.
For the Challenge, teams must develop the bladder-restraint portion of an astronaut glove that is strong, easy on the hands, and gives the operator a high degree of dexterity.

: New Yorker Story Opportunity :
My name is Amy Goldwasser, and I'm a writer for the New Yorker (as well as for a lot of other magazines, including design for I.D. and the New York Times) and I'm seeking designers in your chapter for a story the New Yorker's after. Would greatly appreciate your help for what's bound to be a fantastic story for a huge, mainstream audience.
I'm wondering if you know of any NY-based design teams who might be working on this NASA competition to design a space glove? Obviously, it would be great exposure for the designers/ID in general. But being the New Yorker, we seek a NY angle/way into the larger story. Please let me know if you know of anyone who's embarking on the project.
Thanks so much. 212-388-0571 Look forward to hearing from you.
